Mussoorie, named after the Himalayan shrub Monsoor, is spread out over 16 km. along a horseshoe-shaped ridge overlooking the Doon Valley to the south. In 1827, capt. Young of British army changed upon this extraordinarily beautiful wooded ridge and created the centre around which the hill station grew. Just 38 kms. from Dehradun, Mussoorie offers views of both the Himalayan ranges to the north and the Shivalik and plains to the south. This erstwhile aristocratic resort is a popular hill station and promises a variety of entertainment throughout the year. Landour retains much of the old-world charm of the place.

Air: Nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun-24 kms.

Rail: Dehradun, the last railway terminus, is 38 kms. from Mussoorie.

Ropeway connects the Mall to Gun Hill and makes for several peaks including Bandarpunch. A steep path also runs up to Gun Hill.
