Mussoorie

Mussoorie, named after the Himalayan shrub Monsoor, is spread out over 16 km. along a horseshoe-shaped ridge overlooking the Doon Valley to the south. In 1827, capt. Young of British army changed upon this extraordinarily beautiful wooded ridge and created the centre around which the hill station grew. Just 38 kms. from Dehradun, Mussoorie offers views of both the Himalayan ranges to the north and the Shivalik and plains to the south. This erstwhile aristocratic resort is a popular hill station and promises a variety of entertainment throughout the year. Landour retains much of the old-world charm of the place.

Rail: Dehradun, the last railway terminus, is 38 kms. from Mussoorie.

Sightseeing Places in Mussoorie

Gun Hill

Gets its quaint name from the pre-independence days when a gun mounted on this second highest peak of Mussoorie was fired t herald mid-day, thus enabling people to adjust their watches. A 400 mts. Ropeway connects the Mall to Gun Hill and makes for several peaks including Bandarpunch. A steep path also runs up to Gun Hill.

Kempty Falls

15 kms. on the Chakrata Road. This attractive waterfall has an altitude of 1370 mts. It us pretty and a popular picnic spit. Many tourists enjoy a bath at the foot of the falls during summer.

Municipal Gardens

A scenic picnic spot amidst a beautiful garden. It has an artificial lake and boating facilities.

Children’s Lodge

This is Mussoorie’s highest peak. A telescope mounted at this point provides some breathtaking views of the Himalayan ranges and Doon Valley.

Camel’s Back Road

Named after Camel’s Rock, it is a charming pony trek walk of about 3 kms through quiet glades and mountain side. A sunset view of Himalayan range is recommended.
